What Size Board Does This Room Need? A Practical Sizing Guide — Plusmark Display System

Size is the one board decision that cannot be undone after installation. Too small and the back row stops reading; too large and the board dominates the wall, costs more to ship and wastes half its surface.

Plusmark manufactures standard sizes from 1 × 1 ft up to 8 × 4 ft, with anything larger made to order. The useful question is not the biggest size you can buy but the smallest size the room can read from.

Standard sizes, matched to rooms

These are the size bands Plusmark supplies and the rooms they are specified for.

1 × 1 – 1.5 × 2 ftDesks, cabins, reception counters, small notices
2 × 2 – 2 × 3 ftOffices, staff rooms, tuition classes
2 × 4 – 3 × 4 ftMeeting rooms, small classrooms, corridors
4 × 4 – 5 × 4 ftClassrooms, coaching centres, boardrooms
6 × 4 – 8 × 4 ftLarge classrooms, lecture halls, training halls, auditoriums

How many boards, not just how big

A lecture hall that runs six periods a day rarely wants one 8 × 4 ft board. Two 4 × 4 ft boards on either side of the podium let a lecturer keep a working area and a written area separate, and they survive a wall or transport constraint better than one oversized panel.

The same logic applies to coaching centres that leave worked answers on the board while starting a new question. Plan for board count before you push for maximum size.

Sizes actually stocked per series

Within a series, sizes are not identical across every product. Metallic Premium white, chalk, magnetic, ceramic and notice boards are supplied in 2 × 3, 2 × 4 and 3 × 4 ft. Eco Premium white boards open much smaller — from 1 × 1 ft, through 1 × 1.5, 1 × 2, 1.5 × 2, 1.5 × 3, 2 × 2, 2 × 3, 2 × 4 and 3 × 4 ft — because the range covers cabin and notice use as well as classrooms.

Check the size options on the product page you are ordering. If the size you need is not listed, it goes into the custom route below.

How a custom size gets moving

Larger sizes and special layouts are made to requirement. Before a custom board is quoted, three things have to be settled, and the same three apply to schedule boards that are made to your design.

Quantity of boards; the sizes you want; and a sketch of the layout as you want it. For printed or divided boards — schedule boards, practice board line layouts — that sketch is supplied in CorelDRAW, Photoshop or Word.

When Plusmark creates the design rather than receiving one, additional charges apply. Sending a usable sketch up front keeps the order moving.

Questions on this topic

What is the largest board size Plusmark supplies?
Standard sizes go up to 8 × 4 ft. Anything larger is made as a custom board to your requirement, once quantity, size and a layout sketch are provided.
Does every product come in every size?
No. Sizes differ by series and product, so the size options listed on each product page are the ones supplied for that model. Sizes not listed fall into the custom route.
